How to prepare your blank piece for pressing with Cricut EasyPress 3

Preparing your blank piece to work with Cricut EasyPress is simple! The experience varies somewhat depending on your base material and heat transfer material. Here are some tips.

Preparation for the iron (HTV)

Prewash

For the blanks of clothes like T-shirts, hoodies, jeans or anything else you're likely to machine wash in the future.

We recommend pre-washing the white space without fabric softener to pre-shrink the garment and remove chemicals that may not allow strong adhesion.

Make sure the blanks on the fabric are clean and dry before transferring your design.

Preheat

Follow the instructions in the Cricut Heat app to preheat the white space where you plan to transfer your design.

The purpose of preheating is to remove wrinkles and any residual chemicals or excess moisture that may interfere with a successful transfer.

Preparation for Infusible Ink

No Pre-Wash

For Infusible Ink projects, we do not recommend pre-washing garments or other blank fabrics.

Most fabrics, and even hard blanks like coasters, have lint fibers that are not visible to the naked eye. The dye of these fibers can be activated during transfer, infusing unwanted blue specks into their target.

Pre-washing could cause the accumulation of more lint on the blank piece.

Remover roller

Again, most fabrics, and even hard blanks like coasters, have leather fibers that are not visible to the naked eye. Thoroughly roll up all your white space, especially the area that will come into contact with the heat plate. This will prevent lint or other debris from being pressed into the white space, causing the dye in the lint to infuse unwanted blue spots into its white space.

Preheat

Follow the instructions in the Cricut Heat app to preheat the white space where you plan to transfer your design. Preheating removes wrinkles, residual chemicals, and excess moisture from the target that could interfere with a successful transfer. If you choose not to preheat, the transfer process will convert excess moisture into steam, which will likely displace the pigment and lead to unwanted effects.

Once your white space is ready, you're ready to press! Follow the instructions in the Cricut Heat app to apply and iron your design.
